University Of Tampa professor Kenneth L Storey skyrocketed into the national spotlight when he tweeted a message about Hurricane Harvey being karma for GOP supporters in Texas. Not surprisingly, in the aftermath of the worst natural disaster ever to hit Texas, nobody pulled any punches in response to his commentary.
U of T initially tried to distance themselves from the sociology prof, but #FireKenStorey quickly became a trending topic as rage spread across the internet like wildfire. One day later, the university fired him, with spokesman Eric Cardenas saying,
"We condemn the comments and the sentiment behind them, and understand the pain this irresponsible act has caused."
Storey quickly deleted the tweet, followed shortly after by deleting his profile picture, and finally he deleted his Twitter account @klstory the next day. Speaking to reporters after he was fired, Storey attempted to walk back his comments, framing his tweet as a general protest against GOP climate change deniers.
"GOP denial of climate change science and push to decrease funds from agencies that can help in a time like this."
